About Music4Children, the charity

The civil war in Nepal has left a generation of children homeless and orphaned. In 2005, a small group of musicians, touched by the plight of the street children of Nepal, formed the charity Music4Children.

Mission statement

Music4Children is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged and orphaned children around the world through various projects that break the negative cycles of homelessness, poverty, crime and abuse.

Music4Children centres are community-run, ethically managed and self-sustaining, using renewable energy and locally-sourced materials. They also embed themselves in the local economies of communities, encouraging exposure of local crafts and produce to tourists and other buyers and through the learning of skills, aim to improve the quality of life for future generations.

We aim to use music to fundraise, educate and heal and to build international networks of talented musicians who support our goals and principles. Our regular events aim to generate a sense of community, good-will and create an extended international family for the children involved in our programmes.

Why is Music4Children special?

  • 100% of all public donated funds go directly to our beneficiaries – the charity is entirely volunteer-run with no fancy offices, overpaid directors or people with clipboards harassing you on your way to work (yes, they are paid).
  • Our fundraising is extreme – we go to great heights and lengths to raise money for our cause. We broke the world records for the world's highest gig (above Everest's base camp) and the world's longest gig.
  • It's all about the music – the charity is run by musicians and is supported by some of the UK's most talented bands who regularly hold gigs to benefit the charity. Music is how we fundraise, educate and heal.
  • Even our fundraising makes a difference – our free daytime and evening gigs throughout London create an atmosphere of community spirit, family and goodwill.
